3 of a family burned to death in Pallabi slum fire

Three members of a family were burned to death when a fire broke out in a shack of the city’s Mirpur area early Saturday.
The victims have been identified as Kalpona Begum, 32, her son Kausar Hossain, 10, and her daughter Jannat Akter, 12. The fire started in the Bauniabadh slum of Mirpur-11’s Block D at 4:15 am on Saturday, said Russel Sikder, Control Room Officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense.
Three small shack were gutted although Fire Service doused. Firemen later recovered the three bodies from one of the shanties.
Sources said that the fire was sparked by a mosquito coil.
Homeless and destitute people had established the settlement on the government land by erecting small tin-shed houses on Road No 16, Block D of Section 11 under Pallabi, said Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiar Rahman.
The bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital morgue for autopsy, the SI said.
