On Saturday, June 25 is a Mahendrakshan for the Bengali nation that no one can forget. After inaugurating the Padma Bridge in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached the rally site at Kanthalbari in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district. But there were not three MPs of Shariatpur. Even two senior level leaders of the district were also absent.
According to the sources, these five leaders could not witness history as Corona was identified. It is learned that lakhs of people including Awami League leaders and activists reached the public meeting venue at Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury Ghat in Banglabazar. But Shariatpur-1 MP Iqbal Hossain Apu, Shariatpur-2 MP and Deputy Minister for
Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Shariatpur-3 MP Nahim Razzak were absent in the event. Former MP of Shariatpur-1 constituency and organizing secretary of Awami League BM Mozammel Haque and district Awami League general secretary Anol Kumar Dey were not able to attend the public meeting due to Corona.
The MPs confirmed that Corona was positive from their personal ID in Facebook on social media. BM Mozammel Haque and Anol Kumar Dey confirmed the matter over the mobile phones.
Meanwhile, the much-anticipated Padma Bridge road will be open to all traffic from 6am on Sunday (June 26).
On July 4, 2001, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the dream Padma Bridge. Construction began in November 2014. The truss, made of two-layer steel and concrete, has a four-lane road at the top and a single rail at the bottom.
The main infrastructure is constructed in the Padma-Brahmaputra-Meghna river basin with 42 pillars and 41 spans of 150 m length. The length of the bridge is 8.150 km and the width is 16.10 m.
The construction of the Padma Bridge has cost Tk 30,000 crore.
