3 more testify in DU student rape case

Three more prosecution witnesses, including a police sub-inspector, yesterday testified in a tribunal in the case filed over the rape of a Dhaka University (DU) student in the capital’s Kurmitola area.
Two other witnesses are civilians who were present during time of preparing the seizure list. Judge Begum Mosammat Quamrunnahar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 of Dhaka
recorded their depositions. Later, on behalf of the accused, defence lawyer cross-examined the witnesses. During investigation, the sub-inspector made the seizure list of alamats in presence of two civilian witnesses. The witnesses also demanded exemplary punishment for the lone accused.
Earlier, the victim, her father and six others testified in the tribunal. Then the tribunal fixed October 11for next hearing of the case.
During Monday’s hearing also, the lone accused Majnu was produced in the tribunal.
On January 5, the DU student was raped while she was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a friend’s house near Shewra Rail gate of the capital after getting off a university bus.
The next day, the victim’s father filed the case with Cantonment Police Station. On January 8, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Majnu,
30, from Shewra area. Majnu made a confessional statement on January 16.
