Chattogram Port Authority is working with untried efforts for construction of more three terminals within the Bay Terminal jurisdictions by 2015 next.
With this view of constructing 1500 meters long multipurpose and 1200 meters and 800 meters long container terminals , CPA advancing ahead to full the desired goal . In preliminary stage, works of yard, truck terminal and boundary wall construction launched recently. Chairman of the Port Authority Rear Admiral Zulfiqar Aziz disclosed it while addressing a press conference on 132nd Port Day at Shaheed Munshi Fazlur Rahman Auditorium yesterday afternoon.
 The 132nd Chattogram Port Day will be observed today on its founding anniversary which is being observed every year. Port chairman said after completion of Bay Terminal, the handling capacity of the port will go up by three times. In the meantime, district administration handed over 67 acres of land to Port authority for which paid Tk.364 cr as compensation to the land owners. Besides, 803 acres of khas land has also been approved to Bay Terminal by central Land Allotment committee.
The Port chairman also told that at present existing berths of Ctg Port is able to take berth of vessels of 190 meters long with 9.6 meters draft during tide time and after completion of Bay Terminal vessels more than sa me length and draft can easily be anchored anytime without waiting for sea tide. He further said with a view to expand the massive port activities through long term planning including Bay Terminal, Patenga container terminal, Laldia Terminal, Karnaphuli container Terminal project are finalised in the meantime.Besides to extend support to Bangabhandhu Shilpanagar(Mirsarai-Sitakunda-Feni EZ ) , another terminal at Sitakunda is under process. Port chairman further told that the average stay time of vessel in port was 7/8 days in 2017 but now handling speed increased following deploy of Key Gantry cranes and the vessels won’t stay for long time in inner berths. It is also recorded that vessels directly took berth without staying in outer berth.
Mentionable that due vacant of general cargo berths, container vessels are also being anchoring in cargo berths. At present CP is able to handle 12-14 vessels at a time, he added.
An statistical report of ship berthing in CP is also placed before the journos. Mentionable , 3370 vesses. 3.747, anchored at inner berths of the port during 2017 an 2018 respectively. He further gave descriptions of TEUs handled i.e in 2017 handled 26 lakh 67 thousand TEUs and in 2018 handled 29 lakh 3 thousand TEUs containers and with GDP of Port stands a 9 percent. About dredging of Karnaphuli(port channel). He said dredging works begin from last September with new initiatives with the participation of Bangladesh Naval authority with aim of lifting of 42 lakh cubim meters earth.
 The dredging work of Tk.242 cr is expected to be completed by next 4 year. Among others, Member(Admn ,Planning) Md. Zafar Alam, Member(Engineering) Commodore Khondakar Akther Hossain, Secretary Md. Omar Faruk and senior port officials were present in the press meet.
