Coronavirus outbreak: 3 more die amid jump in cases

Three more died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Bangladesh and the country recorded the highest single day spike in corona cases since the outbreak first reported on March 8.
Thirty-five tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 123, said Health Officials on Monday.
“Among the new patients, 30 were males and five females,” said Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora in a daily online briefing.
Of them, 11 are 41-50 years old and six are 21-30 years, she said
Dr Meerjady also said, Dhaka city has the highest number of infected in the country so far. A total of 64 among the 123 infected patients are from the capital.
The second highest, a total of 23 infected patients, are from Narayanganj. Among the 35 infected in the last 24 hours, 12 are from Narayanganj, Dr Meerjady added.
She said, there are cases of cluster transmission in Narayanganj.
Three more died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours taking the death toll from the virus to 12.
The IEDCR in the last 24 hours examined 468 samples, totalling the number to 4011, she added.
Earlier in the day, Health Minister Zahid Malik held a special meeting with government and private health organizations on the coronavirus issue at Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS) building in Dhaka’s Mohakhali area.
“Next 30 days are critical for us. Nation will get rid of this pandemic if people stay safe and are careful,” said the Minister.
