Police have detained three more suspected militants from Rajshahi, a day after the arrest of five suspected operatives of outlawed Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the district town.
Those arrested lately are Abdur Razzaque, 30, Ariful Islam Shodoy, 23 and Mansur Rahman, 25.
Police picked up Razzaq during a raid on Guniadanga Village of
Bagmara Upazila around 3:30am on Sunday.
Executed top JMB leader Siddiqul Islam alias ‘Bangla bhai’ recruited him to the banned Islamist outfit in 2004, said Bagmara police OC Nasim Ahmmed. “Razzaq, accused in multiple cases, is also on the police’s wanted list of JMB operatives,” he told bdnews24.com. Ariful and Mansur are activists of Hizb ut Tahrir, said Poba Police Station’s OC Porimal Kumar Chakroborty.
Police detained them from the Upazila around 3am on Sunday, on a tip off that they were involved with terrorist activities in the zone, he said. With Saturday’s arrest, the number of suspected militants nabbed from Rajshahi has gone up to eight.
