The three suspected militants, arrested from Savar on the outskirts of the capital on Thursday, were active members of Neo JMB’s Sarwar-Tamim Group, claimed Rapid
Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday. Rab Director (Media) Mufti Mahmood Khan made the claim at a press briefing at the elite force’s Karwan Bazar media centre in the city.
He said the arrested militants had planned to carry out subversive activities in various places, including the city.
On secret information, a special team of RAB-4 arrested Tamim Dari alias Abdullah Al Hasan alias Al Jafri alias Amir Hamza, 32, Quamrul Hasan alias Kajal alias Nuruddin, 26, and Mostafa Majumder alias Shihab alias Hamza, 32, from a Gabtali-bound bus at Jhitka of Rajfulbaria around 10pm on Thursday, said Mufti Mahmood.
The elite force team also recovered one foreign pistol, five bullets, two magazines, 1.150 kg plastic explosive and improvised explosive device (IED)-making materials from their possession. The RAB media wing chief said Tamim Dari is a converted Muslim with his previous Hindu name being Gouranga Kumar Mondal.
He converted to Islam in 2003 when he was pursuing higher secondary education. He got admitted to Chittagong Marine Academy in 2006 and on completion of his degree there, he served different ships, including ‘Banglar Kakoli’, from 2010 to 2014, Mufti Mahmood said, adding that Tamim got involved with Neo JMB in August last.
