At least three people including a father and his son were electrocuted to death at Jalia village under Karail Union of Kishoreganj sadar on Friday noon around 2.35 pm.
The deceased were identified as farmers. They were Harun -ur – Rashid (42), his son Bablu Mia (15), and nephew Abu Saeed. Harun-ur -Rashid, son of Abdul Mannan of the same village and Abu Saeed (16) was the son of Harun’s brother Borhan.
Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, President in Karshakariyal Union Awami League, said that a past of electricity fell on his ground near Harun’s house. Harun’s nephew Abu Saeed was electrocuted while riding his bicycle. When Bablu Mia came forward to save him, he too got electrocuted. Seeing this incident from a distance, Harun -ur -Rashid came running to save his son and nephew. He was also electrocuted while trying to save the two and was seriously injured. Later, the locals rescued the three and took them to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, General Manager of Kishoreganj Palli Bidyut Samiti, told the New Nation that as far as he knew, it was an illegal line taken from one house to another by the GI. The accident happened when the line with GI wire broke and fell on the ground. As soon as the news was received, the power supply of the area was cut off and their workers were sent to the spot.
