KCC polls: 3 mayoral, 74 councillor candidates lost security money

In just concluded Khulna City Corporation election three mayoral and 74 councilors candidates have lost security money, said election officials yesterday. They also included Jatiya Party mayoral candidate in the city polls.  
Those lost security money included 68 councilor candidates out of 30 wards and six female candidates out of 10 women reserve seats. In the election, the security money
was confiscated because they can’t secure one-eighth of the votes cast.
There were 148 general councilor aspirants racing in 31 wards in which election to one ward was postponed. Thirty nine women contested against 10 female reserved seats.
Returning officer Yunuich Ali said that if a candidate does not get one-eighth of the votes, according to the Local Government (City Corporation Election-2010) Rule 44/3, his security will be forfeited. At the same time, the security money will be deposited in the public treasury.
The mayor candidates who lost security money include CPB-BASD-backed candidate Mizanur Rahman Babu, Jatiya Party candidate SM Mushfiqur Rahman and Mujammil Haque of Islami Movement Bangladesh.
