Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives recovered three lakh pieces of contraband yaba tablets and 1,600 bottles of phensidyl from the city and district on early Friday.
An alleged drug trader was arrested and a covered van was detained during the drives in city’s Pahartali area and Anowara uapazila of the district.
The arrested was identified as Zakir Hossain, 35.
On a tip-off, a team of the RAB-7 raided a Chittagong-bound covered van coming from Comilla in front of “Siver Palace Guest House” at city’s Pahartali area and arrested Zakir around 12.15 am, a RAB press release said.
Later, the RAB team recovered 1,600 bottles of phensidyl worth about Taka 12.80 lakh from the covered van and detained the vehicle.
A case was filed against Zakir with city’s Pahartali police station.
Meanwhile, a team of Chittagong district police, on secret information, conducted a drive at the house of one Abul Kashem at Raipura village under Anowara uapazila of the district and recovered three lakh pieces of yaba tablets worth about Taka 10 crore from the house around 4.30 am. Police, however, could not arrest anybody in this connection as the inmates of the house managed to flee away sensing presence of the police.
Police said Kashem and his son were involved in yaba trading from Teknaf to different parts of the country. A case was under process against Kashem in this connection.
