3 lakh flood-hit families to get VGF rice

The government will distribute rice for free for 3 lakh 9 thousand and 487 flood affected families of 17 districts under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme for three months from next month.
Under the programme, each of the flood victim family will get 20 kilogram rice per month from September to November. “The government has started the VGF programme after a long time … and over 3 lakh flood affected poor families will get the rice for free until the new harvest,” said Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Shah Kamal. To this end, the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry has allocated a total of 18,569.22 tonnes of rice under the programme and the stipulated amount of food grain already
has been sent to the concerned district administration, said the official.
Besides, the government has already sent 19,481 bundles of corrugated iron sheet and cash Taka 5.74 crore for flood-hit families in 19 districts. Under the VGF programme in 17 districts, the government has earmarked 2,826.120 tonne rice for flood-hit 47,102 families of Sirajganj, 509.460 tonne rice for 8,491 flood affected families of Bogra, 3,706.920 tonne for 61,782 flood affected poor families of Kurigram district.
Around 115.500 tonne rice was earmarked for 19,285 flood hit families in Nilphamari, 1,160.460 tonne rice for 19,341 poor families in Gaibandha district, 1,047.060 tonne rice will get 17,451 families in Lalmonirhat, 3,746.280 tonnes rice will get 62,438 poor families in Jamalpur district.
In Faridpur district, 377.040 tonnes earmarked for 6,284 flood affected poor families, 513.540 tonnes of rice earmarked for 8,559 flood affected families in Rajbari district, 2,888.520 tonnes earmarked for 48,142 families in Tangail, 190.260 tonnes earmarked for 3,171 families in Madaripur district.
A total of 185.760 tonnes earmarked for 3,096 flood affected poor families of Shariatpur district, 1002.840 tonnes for 16,714 families in Manikganj, 127.620 tonnes for 2,128 families in Dhaka district, 120.840 tonnes for 2,014 families in Munshiganj, 47.640 tonnes for 794 flood affected families in Chandpur and 3.180 tonnes rice will be distributed among 53 flood hit families in Rajshahi district under the programme.
Even the government also has earmarked 48 tonnes rice for 2400 flood families at Thanchi upazila under Bandarban district. In the upazila, a flood-affected family will get 20 kg rice in per month from September to November period. Apart from this, the government has distributed Taka 5,19,51,000 in cash where each families out of 17,317 flood-hit families got Taka 3,000 in every month until November of this year.
