At least three persons were killed and seven others critically injured in a clash over a land measuring 27 decimals at Gilabari in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Jalil Miah, 50, son of Jalal Miah, Golam Rabbani, 45, son of Abdul Gafur, and Sahidur Rahman, 45, son of Asir Uddin, from Gilabari village.
Aditmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Rana said, “There had been a longstanding dispute between
Khalek Munshi and Jalil Miah over the ownership of a piece of land measuring 27 decimals. Following the dispute, Khalek’s supporters swooped on Jalil – around 7:30am inciting a clash between the two groups.”
The OC said that Jalil died on the spot, and nine others were injured, reports our district correspondent quoting the OC.
Of the injured, Rabbani and Shahidur succumbed to their injuries after they were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Locals said that the killings occurred for harvesting paddy and building house by the two rival groups.
Meanwhile, at least two men were arrested in connection with the murder.
Earlier a case which was filed by the deceased Jalil’s son Zahangir Alam.
The arrested men are Khabir Uddin Master, 46, son of Abdus Subhan and Alia alias Ingrej Bhatia, 45, son of late Nurul Islam. alias, from Haridas village.
