3 killed in separate incidents

Three people, including a woman and a child, were killed in separate incidents in the port city yesterday. Among the victims, rickshaw-van puller Kamal Uddin, 50, was killed as a gas cylinder exploded in city’s Sadarghat area yesterday morning.
The cylinder blew off after it fell down when the rickshaw-van puller was handling it at the ghat of the Karnaphuli river, killing him on the spot, said Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Police Station.
In another incident, house wife Jaheda Begum, 30, was electrocuted while she came in contact with a live electric wire in city’s Tulatali area under Bakalia thana.
Relatives sent Jaheda to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the attending doctors declared her dead.
Meanwhile, child Meherina, 3, killed after sinking into a pond at Charpatherghata under Karnaphuli thana around 8 am today, said Alauddin, sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost. Three separate UD cases were lodged with respective police stations in these connections.
