Three people died and about two others went missing after their boat capsized in the River Meghna near Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district on Thursday afternoon.
The name of the victims could not be identified immediately.
A Motlob upazila bound passenger trawler was upset by a wave in the Char Kishoreganj area. The trawler passengers were going to attend ‘Urs’ at Beltoli in Motlob of Chandpur district.
However, most of the passengers were rescued with the help of local people. Shah Alam, In-Charge of Narayanganj Port Police said, the trawler was rescued in the evening.
He said police along with Fire Service and Coast Guard were searching for the missing passengers in the river.
