3 killed, 12 hurt by sudden storm in Keraniganj, Dhamrai and Laxmipur

UNB, Dhaka – Three people were killed and 12 others were injured in three separate incidents in Keraniganj, Dhamrai and Laxmipur districts during a storm on Sunday evening. In Keraniganj, a minor girl was killed and 10 others were injured as a wall collapsed on a tin-shed house during a storm at Imambari. The deceased was identified as Riya Moni, 10. Officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Model Police Station Monirul Islam said a portion of the wall fell on the house consisting of several rooms during the storm in the evening. Riya died on the spot and 10 other members of some tenant families suffered injuries. The injured were taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital in the capital. In Dhamrai, a man was killed and two others were injured as an electric pole collapsed on them during the storm at Mangalbari in Dhamrai upazila in the evening. The deceased was identified as Ahmed Ali, 50, a resident of Mangalbari village. Officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station Rizaul Hoque said an electric pole fell on the trio during the storm, leaving Ahmed dead on the spot and injured two others. The injured were whisked off to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex, the OC added. In Laxmipur, an elderly man was killed as a tree collapsed on him during the storm at Keroa village in Raypura upazila in the night. The deceased was identified as Harun-or-Rashid, 50, son of late Kalim Ullah Master. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Raypura upazila Shamrin Alam said the accident took place when Harun was returning home from Raypura amid storm around 9:30pm, leaving him injured on the spot. Later, he died on the way to hospital.
