A mobile court in Sunamganj sentenced three laborers to seven days’ imprisonment for lifting sand illegally from the Dhopajan river in sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon. The convicts were identified as Shafiq Miah, 30, son of Zohu Miah, Ekhlas Miah, son of Shamsul Miah, and Liakat Ali, 27, son of Nagar Ali, a resident of Dolura village of the upazila. The mobile court led by assistant commissioner A T M Morshed and Anjan Das conducted a drive in the river area from 12pm to 3pm and arrested the trio for illegal dredging, said Assistant Sub-inspector Ripon of Sunamganj Sadar Police Station. Later the mobile court awarded them seven days’ jail.
