A mobile court on Friday night sentenced three people to different jail terms and fined another for arranging child marriage in Boidyer Pool area in Kachia union of Borhanuddin upazila.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and executive magistrate Md Kuddus said he was informed that arrangements were made at a mosque in the area for marrying off Tania Akhter, 14, daughter of Mokhlesur Rahman of Kutuba union, to Sabuj, 25, son of Hafizuddin of Kachia union. The UNO conducted a drive at the mosque and detained four people in this connection around 10pm. Later, his mobile court sentenced marriage registrar Mosaraf Hossain to one month’s jail, bridegroom Sabuj and cleric Md Emran to 15 days’ jail each. The court also fined the bridegroom’s grandfather TK 1,000.
