The jail authorities have withdrawn three prison officials after a leaked CCTV footage exposed an inmate’s meeting with a woman inside Kashimpur Central Jail.
“Three prison officials have already been withdrawn for facilitating the prisoner an unauthorized meeting with the woman,” Inspector General (IG) of Prisons Brig Gen Mominul Rahman Mamun told the New Nation on Saturday.
The withdrawn officers are Deputy Jailer Md Golam Saqlain, Sergeant Instructor Md Abdul Bari and Assistant Chief Jailor Md Khalilur Rahman.
Brig Gen Mominul Rahman Mamun said two separate probe committees have already been formed to investigate into the incident. “It is a serious offence, no one will be spared, if found guilty,” he added.
The jail authorities on Thursday formed a three-member committee led by Additional Inspector General of Prisons Abrar Hossain.
Besides, Gazipur district administration formed another committee led by Additional District Magistrate Abul Kalam to probe the incident.
IG Prisons said probe bodies have started their investigation. I hope they will submit reports within the stipulated time. “Action has already been taken against three jail officials. Similar measure will be taken against the Jail Super and Jailer if we found their involvement with the matter,” he added.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told media that such incidents cannot be tolerated inside the jail. The accused will be punished according to the rules. Anyone involved in such activities will be prosecuted according to the existing laws.
Hallmark General Manager (GM) Tushar Ahmed spent time with a woman in the Kashimpur Central Jail-1 in Gazipur, a CCTV footage captured on 6 January revealed the incident.
A private TV channel exposed the CCTV footage in a report causing a stir across the country.
The CCTV footage shows GM Tushar Ahmed walking around the officers’ cabin area in the prison wearing a black shirt.
After a few moments, a woman in a purple coloured three-piece suit entered the jail from outside. Senior Jail Super Ratna Roy and Deputy Jailor Golam Saqlain were present at that time.
At 12:55 pm, the woman went to the prison’s official room with two young men. Jailor Saqlain greeted the woman then left the room. Tushar was then taken to the room ten minutes later.
After that Tushar and the woman went to the Jail Super Ratna’s room. Both of them were laughing and joking while leaving her at Ratna’s room. Two minutes later, they returned to Saqlain’s room and spent one and half hours there.
