3 injured in JnU students and transport workers clash at Luxmibazar 10 buses vandalised

At least two students and a bus helper were injured in a factional clash between transport workers and the students of Jagannath University in the city’s Laxmibazar area on Tuesday. During the clash, about 10 buses were vandalized and the whole area became a battle field.
The injured were identified as Sani of Mathmatics Department (10th batch), Roman of Management Department (10th batch), and Rabiul, 22, the bus helper.
They were given treatment in a local Hospital.
According to sources, some JnU students were involved in a dispute with a bus conductor of Azmeri Glori Paribahan over payment of bus fare on Monday night, when they were returning from Gulistan. At one stage, the conductor and some of his collaborators beat the students at BRTC counter, Gulistan and left a student seriously injured.
He was identified as Saad, 19, a student of Accounting Information System (10th batch). He was rushed to Midford Hospital.
When the students came to know the incident, they launched an attack on the transport workers yesterday morning and vandalized at least 10 buses in front of the university and left a bus helper named Rabiul wounded, sources added.
Kotwali Thana Police arrested three students in this regard. But they were released after a while.
They were Somrat of Social Science Department (10th batch), Swojon of Anthropology Department (10th batch) and Rifat of Zoology Department (10th batch).
Kotwali Thana OC Abul Hasan said, “No case has been filed against them in this incident. Though we arrested three students instantly, but released them after one hour.”
A director of Azmeri Paribahan with the request of anonymity alleged there took place a dispute between the JnU unit BCL leaders and activists and transport workers.
 “We consider half-fare for the students after Communication Minister’s order, but the students behaved roughly with conductor”, he said.
JnU Proctor Dr. Noor Mohammad told The New Nation, “We will take special measure against the guilty ones after an investigation.”
