A teacher and two officials of Islamic University of Kushtia were injured in a clash between two groups of teachers in the campus premises on Wednesday morning.
The injured teacher was identified as Deputy Registrar of the university Mir Morshedur Rahman. Officer-in-Charge of Islamic University Police Station Shonito Kumar Gain said a section of teachers – supporters of Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Abdul Hakim Sarker – formed a
human chain on the campus premises around 10am demanding the resignation of Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman.
A separate group of teachers allied to the pro-VC went to protest against the demand. At one stage, the two groups of teachers locked into an altercation which triggered the clash, leaving Deputy Registrar Mir Morshedur Rahman and two officials injured on the spot.
The injured teacher was whisked off to Kushtia General Hospital.
Additional policemen have been deployed on the university campus to ward off further trouble, the OC added.
