The Department of Environment (DoE) on Wednesday demolished three illegal brick kilns in Aminbazar area, the outskirts of the capital as those establishments were causing huge environmental pollution.
“The three brick kilns were Titas, Mitali and MSM Bricks — had been operating defying law. These kilns used topsoil from arable lands harming the environment,” said Maksudul Islam, Executive Magistrate, led the drive.
The Department also fined Tk 13 lakhs to those brick kiln, owners during the drive.
Of the total, owners of Titas and Mitali were fined Tk five lakhs each and MSM Brick Tk 3 lakh.
Earlier on December 5, a team of DoE demolished one illegal brick kilns and detained its staff in a drive in Savar.
Led-by Md Maksudul Islam, Executive Magistrate, a team of DoE conducted the drive against illegal brick kilns in Savar. The name of the demolished illegal establishment is TB Brick Kilns.
