Three days after the recovery of a tiger skin from Bagerhat, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested three members of tiger poachers’ gang, including an ex-BGB member, with the skin of an adult tiger in the capital on Sunday night.
The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Alam Pradhan, 45, of Kawadi, Comilla; Abul Kahar, 24, of Pabna and Mohammad Rubel, 30, of Dinajpur.
Tipped off, a team of Forest Department and Rab members conducted a joint drive in city’s Kalabagan area around 8 pm on Sunday and seized the tiger skin from a home No: 102, and arrested the
three alleged poachers in connection with the incident, forest conservator (wildlife circle) Dr Tapan Kumar Dey told UNB on Monday.
A mobile court sentenced Alam Pradhan and Abul Kahar one year imprisonment and fined Tk 50,000 each. Rubel was fined Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer another month in jail.
Dr Tapan Kumar said Alam Pradhan, an ex-BGB member, is the mastermind of the poaching group.
Alam confessed to Rab that he along with others killed the tiger a year ago from the Sundarbans, he added.
The Forest Department along with Rab members also seized five skins of deer from the city’s Jatrabari area on Sunday afternoon.
On January 14 last, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested three members of tiger poachers’ gang along with a sack loaded with a hide, teeth and some bones of tiger from a bus stand of Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat.
