Detectives arrested three people along with fake Bangladeshi currency worth Tk 20 lakh and 300 grams of heroin from Paltan area of the city on Thursday.
The arrestees are Shahabuddin Shikder, 38, Mehedi Hasan alias Babu alias Lawrence, 42, and Sohel Mia, 29.
Based on secret information, a special team of Detective Branch (North Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a drive in front of Hotel Bakshi around 4pm, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.. During the drive, the detectives detained the trio and
recovered the fake currency and heroin searching their bodies, he said.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they used to cheat people mixing fake currency with original notes targeting big festivals and programmes.
Besides, they were involved in peddling of illegal drugs like heroin. Two cases were filed with Paltan Police Station in this regard.
