Police seized a pick-up van in Comilla along with 30 Bashundhara LP Gas cylinders filled with less quantity and substandard gas than the original Bashundhara LP Gas cylinders.
The law enforcers also arrested three people in this connection.
The arrestees include Shahjalal Noapara of Comilla, the owner of the fake gas cylinders, pick-up van driver Abdur Rahman Shuvo of Durgapur of Comilla and helper Alamgir Hossain of same area.
Confirming the incident, Jahirul Islam, officer in-charge of Burichang police station, said a case will be filed against the unscrupulous traders and his cohorts for counterfeiting Bashundhara LP Gas cylinders.
Local sources said a vested quarter is engaged in selling substandard LP gas at cheaper price after refilling spurious gas in Banshundhra LP gas cylinders, deceiving the consumers.
OC Jahirul Islam said acting on a tip-off, a team of police rushed to Burichang bazaar area and seized the pick-up van with 30 cylinders filled with spurious LP gas on Monday afternoon. The cylinders were brought for sale in the market.
