3 held with 50 gold bars in city

Staff Reporter :The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested three passengers from the Turna-Nishita Express Train along with 50 gold bars, weighing 6.1kgs worth around Tk 2.25 crore at Kamalapur Railway Station in the city on Wednesday morning.The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Dilu Mia, 30, Mohammad Suman, 35, and their accompliceMohammad Selim, 34, GRP police said. Kamalapur Railway Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Mazid said that a special team of police raided Dhaka-bound Turna-Nishita Express train coming from Chittagong around 9:00am and held two persons. The team members recovered also 34 gold bars worth Tk1.53 crore from inside their socks.In another drive, police seized 16 more gold bars and detained a youth named Salim at Kamalapur Railway Station on the day. Police suspected that he had come from Chittagong by the Turna-Nishita Express Train, the police official said. Abdul Majid said that the police arrested him with 16 pieces of gold bars worth around Tk 72 lakh, while he was roaming through the Kamalapur Railway Station platform suspiciously.
