Police arrested three suspected muggers from Mirpur area in the city in connection with the recent snatching bid
of a housewife’s purse that led to her death.
Ayesha Akhter Ripa, 27, a housewife, died as she fell off a rickshaw when muggers tried to snatch her purse near Sobhanbagh Mosque under Dhanmondi Police Station in the city on October 28.
The arrested muggers were identified as Md Abul Kalam, Md Hemayet Hossain alias Himu and Md Alamgir Hossain alias Ratan.
Tipped off, a team police conducted a drive at
Mirpur Section-6 under Mirpur police station at about 2:00 am arrested the trio along with one microbus used for hijacking, four vanity bags, one laptop bag and two sharp weapons.
During preliminary interrogation, they confessed that they had been involved in several mugging incidents in the capital.
