Two students of a college were allegedly raped by a group of youths in the district town on Tuesday.
Today, police have arrested three suspects-Munna Mia, 25, son of Islam Mia; Akash Mia, 25, son of Adris Mia; and Humayun Mia, 23, son of Suruk Miya of Jagannathpur in Sadar upazila-over the incident.
Later, a court sent the three to jail after police produced them before it on Wednesday.
Alamgir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Model Police Station, said the incident took place when the two students of the Moulvibazar Govt. Women’s College were on their way home from the college.
The youths lured the girls near Sheikh Rasel
Indoor Stadium and raped them in turns after taking them to a nearby jungle.
When the locals rushed there hearing the victims’ scream, the rapists fled the scene.
On information, police rushed in, rescued the girls and sent them to the Sadar Hospital, the OC said, adding that police immediately detained three youths over the incident.
“During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to their involvement in the incident. We are trying to arrest the remaining accused,” he said. A case was filed over the incident with the police station.
