Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested the bridegroom and two women on charge of forcing a teenage girl into marriage from Islampur Majortila area of the city on Monday afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as Mamun, the bridegroom, Nurunnahar, 30, wife of Janu Miah, hailing from Kishoreganj district, and Rahima Begum, 50, wife of Mainuddin Miah, hailing from Putigaon village of Kamlakanda upazila in Netrakona district.
Nurunnahar and Rahima introducing themselves as an aunt of Mamun arranged the marriage between him (Mamun) and the girl against her will on May 28, said Rab in a press briefing.
Getting informed, a team of the elite force, led by Major Fakhrul Islam Khan of RAB-9, conducted the drive and arrested the trio.
Following a written complaint by the victim, the force later handed over the arrestees to Shah Poran police station.
