Kotwali police of CMP arrested three arms peddlers including caretaker of Nawab’s house Kayes(35) from the city on tuesday last . Nawab is the younger brother of whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury MP. The detained are Kayes, Nazrul Islam and Sajjad Hossain.
They were produced in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan yesterday after 2 days remand. As the police did not apply for remand again, the court ordered to send them to jail.
Kotwali police sub-inspector (SI) Mehedi Hasan, who is investigating the case, told media that Kayes had bought weapons from Anu. Anu procured these from Alvi. Other information will come out if Alvi can be arrested. The court granted two-days remand to three arms dealers, including Kayes, after they applied for a seven-day remand. on the basis of secret information Kotwali police arrested Kayes with 1 LG and 1 round of ammunition from Boxirhat area . Two more people involved in arms trade were arrested from a residential area of Muhuri Para of Halishahar Police Station.
Kayes (34) hails from Patia Upazila’s Shobhandandi Union. He is the son of Firoz. He was working as the caretaker of the house of Nawab, younger brother of Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury MP. The others are Nazrul Islam Anu, 25, son of Shamsul Alam of Badsha Mia Bari, Ward 28, CDA, Ward No. 27, Double Mooring Police Station and Sajjad Hossain Sajib, 28, son of Lalu Mina of Muktijoddha Gali, Darogarhat Road, Sadarghat Police Station.
