The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday handed over three students to their respective families while two others were sued in anti-terror case. They surrendered to the elite force during the Saturday’s raid in a suspected militant den in Narsingdi district.
The handed over students are: a grade X student Masudur Rahman, Narsingdi Government College’s final year student Basikul Islam and visitor Mashiur Rahman.
The other two youths are: Salahuddin, a former student of Dhaka University and Abu Jafar, a college student in Narsingdi, police said.
The three were handed over to their families as we found no evidence that they were involved in militant activities, said RAB-11 Captain Lieutenant Colonel Kamrul Hasan
We have found some evidence against the two other youths with the militant link and they were shown arrest in a case, he said.
“RAB-11 Deputy Assistant Director Abdur Rahman filed a case against seven persons, including Salahuddin and Jafar, under Anti-Terrorism Act around 12:00pm on Monday,” Narsingdi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mostafa said.
The others accused are Jhony alias dacoit Jhony, Ariful alias dacoit Arif, from Narsingdi, their cohorts Tariqul, from Bagerhat, Nazmul and Rony, from Barguna, said the Duty Officer of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station.
It is to be noted that on Saturday, RAB cordoned off a two-storey under-construction building in Narsingdi, suspecting that a few militants were holed up inside, but those inside the building claimed that they were not militants.
