A tribunal here on Thursday convicted three people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for violating a housewife in 2010.
The lifers were identified as Jahur Ali,48, son of late Maulana Abdul Jalil of Rapasha village in Kamalganj, Koisar Miah,32, son of Mir Ali of Baliarbagh village and Sadek Miah,30, son of late Soleman Miah of Sompashi village of Sadar upazila.
Among them, Sadek Miah was tried in absentia. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each and, in default, to suffer one more year of rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, a housewife was gang-raped by the convicts at Premnagar tea garden in Moulvibazar district, when she went to Civil Surgeon office by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on February 22, 2010.
The victim filed a case against four people with Sadar Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
