3 get 2 yrs’ jail for smuggling Phensidyl in Jessore

A court here on Wednesday convicted three people and sentenced them to two years’ imprisonment each for smuggling Phensidyl in 2003.
The convicts are Rabiul Islam, son of late Bahar Ali Mandol of Chutarhuda village, Akkas Ali, son of late Sheikh Joynal Abedin of Tengurpur village, and Alamgir Hossain Kabir, son of Atiar Rahman of Kongsharipur village of Chowgachha upazila.
The court also fined them Tk 1000 each, in default, to suffer one month more jail.
According to the prosecution, on secret information, police intercepted a truck at Tengurpur in Chowgachha upazila on July 28, 2003.
Later, they recovered 500 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from the truck and arrested the trio.
After examining records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Begum Mamtaz Pervin handed down the verdict.
