Staff Reporter :The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested three African nationals from the city’s Moghbazar area early Tuesday allegedly for overstaying in Bangladesh illegally for years.The arrested foreigners have been identified as Jabir Khamis, 32, from Chad, and George Martin. 35, and David Cone, 44, from Liberia, RAB-3 Operation Officer Ashrafuzzaman said. One Bangladeshi Partha Kumar Sarkar was also picked up for giving shelter to the illegal foreign nationals as tenants in his house, he said.The elite force said that a team of RAB-3 conducted a drive at Nayatola following an information around 4:00am and arrested them from the residence of Partha Kumar. The held foreigners are being interrogated in this connection, Ashrafuzzaman said. They are involved with killing, mugging, smuggling, fake note manufacturing and running illegal VoIP business in the capital, the RAB officials said. This crackdown is part of the drive carried out by law enforcement agencies to arrest foreign nationals overstaying in Bangladesh without legal papers, he said.Officials sources of the Special Branch (SB) of police said that around one lakh foreigners, mostly from African and South East Asian nations, are living in the country illegally for years.On November 14, Detective Branch (DB) of police detained 31 Africans from the city on the same charges, sources said.
