A mobile court in Manikganj district sentenced three fishermen one year imprisonment on the charge of catching hilsa in the Padma River in Shibaloya upazila on Friday defying a government ban.
Jailed fisherman are identified as Zilal Hossain, 45, Md Sobuj, 32, and Raqibul, 40. All of them are inhabitants of Alokdiar Char village under Shibaloy upazila.
The mobile court Executive Magistrate Billal Hossain passed the order around 8:00am.
Police conducted a drive in the Padma yesterday morning and nabbed them along with 10 mounds of hilsa and 30,000 meters of current net, said Billal.
