3 female JMB activists put on remand

A court here on Monday placed three detained suspected female members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a three-day remand. Senior Judicial Magistrate Syed Abdullah Al Masud passed the order after hearing a remand petition, said court police inspector Anwarul Islam.
Police produced the suspected female JMB members before the court on July 5 seeking three days’ remand. However, the court sent them to jail fixing Monday for remand hearing.
Those remanded are: Rozina Begum, 30, wife of Mokhlesur Rahman alias Mozammel alias Harej of Paschim Rakhabpur Bhutmara village in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha district; Sajida Akhter, 22, wife of Nazrul aka Bike Nazrul alias Parvez alias Hasan of Chhobhar Gajpuri village in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh; and Jannati alias Jemy, 18, wife of Abu Sayeed alias Sabuj of Bagra Kusumdi village in Sherpur upazila of Bogra district. Inspector (Investigation) of Kalihati Police Station Nazrul Islam said the families of the three alleged female militants hired a house in Jokarchar area of the upazila several days ago.
Locals informed police after they noticed their suspicious movement and behaviour, he said.
On the night of July 4, police launched a drive at the house and arrested Rozina, Sajida and Jannati along with three children.
They also recovered two machetes, a knife, a manual on making bombs and a video clip on slaughtering people, the police officer said, describing the arrestees as members of JMB’s suicide squad.
Sub-Inspector Kutub Uddin filed a case under the Anti-terrorism Act against them.
