3 ex-CU officials get 6 -yr RI for result fraudulence

A Chittagong court on Tuesday awarded six years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) to three former officials of Chittagong University (CU) including controller of examinations in two separate cases on charges of result forgery.
The court of Divisional Special Judge SM Ataur Rahman also fined them TK three thousand each, in default to suffer six months more imprisonment.
The convicts are- former controller of examinations GM Latif Khan, former deputy controller of examinations Habibur Rahman and former section officer Nasir Uddin.
Each convict was given a total of six years’ rigorous imprisonment in two cases, three years each, court sources said. Court sources said the then deputy director of Anti Corruption Bureau Nurul Huda Azad filed the two cases with Hathazari thana against them on charges of letting some 53 students pass and issued them mark sheets and certificates through forgery in 1983 and 1993.
The court today after examining a total of 21 prosecution witnesses in the two cases pronounced the verdict. The convicts trio who are already imprisoned were again sent to the jail.
