Staff Reporter :Three students of Dhaka University (DU) were arrested on charge of attempt to rape a female student of the university at the TSC after Tuesday midnight. The arrested students were identified as Ratul Hasan Nayeem of Applied Mathematics Department, Amirul Islam of Biology Department and Nazmul Sakib of Statistics Department. All of them are 1st year students and residential students of Amar Ekushey Hall.Abu Bakar Siddique, officer in-charge of Shahbag Police Station, said the DU Acting Proctor Professor AM Amzad handed over three students, also BCL activists of DU Amar Ekushey Hall unit, to police over sexually harassing and attempting to rape a student of Rokeya Hall. Police also said that the role of acting proctor Prof M Amzad Ali was found mysterious. Eyewitnesses said that the female student of Rokeya Hall was gossipping with her friends in front of the TSC around 1:30am on Wednesday. At that time, the DU proctorial body asked them to leave the place. When they left the place and reached the Dutch-Bangla Bank ATM booth near the TSC, three students appeared there and attempted to rape the girl. As the girl started screaming, the proctorial body members rushed there and caught the culprits red-handed.Professor M Amzad Ali said, “The victim was a residential student of Rokeya Hall. Three students were handed over to police. We will take action against the students after investigation,” he said. The girl filed a written complaint with Shahbagh Police Station.
