Two minor girls drowned in a pond at Barmondo village in Faridganj upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Ruma, 4, daughter of one Rubel Gazi and her four-year-old cousin Suborna, daughter of one Sumon Gazi, residents of the village.
Manik Mia, a former Union Parishad member of the area, said Ruma and Suborna slipped into the pond and drowned while playing on the bank around 10 am.
Sylhet Correspondent adds: A schoolboy drowned in the Piyain river at Jaflong in the district on Friday noon.
Jahangir Hossain Sarder, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Goainghat Police Station, said that Sri Liton Goyala, 12, son of Sri Niranjan Goyala, and a class VIII student of Radhanagar Dr. Ali High School, drowned in the river while swimming along with his friends.
On information, a team of divers of Fire Service and Civil Defense in Sylhet rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the river in the evening, added the OC.
