Three people died and two others fell critically ill after supposedly consuming excessive liquor in Hosniganj area of Rajshahi district early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Md Faisal, 28, son of Ainul Islam of Hosniganj area, Md Sajal, 25, son of Rafiqul Islam of Shantapara area of Bagmara upazila and Md Sagar, 25, son of Uttam of Bakir Mor area.
The victims died in Ward 17 of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) from late Friday night to early Saturday morning.
Two others, who fell seriously ill after taking liquor, are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Rajpara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam said the victims took the liquor together in Hosniganj area of the city between 9pm and 10pm on Friday and fell sick.
Later, they were taken to the hospital where the trio died, said the OC adding that investigation is underway on this regard.
