3-day workshop on export promotion begins in DCCI

A 3-day training workshop on promotion of export from Bangladesh began Tuesday.
Agricultural Value Chains (AVC) Project of USAID and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) jointly organized the workshop at DCCI.
A total of 30 participants from different organizations doing business in agro-sector are taking part at the workshop, said a DCCI press release today.
DCCI Vice President Shoaib Choudhury, DCCI Secretary General A H M Rezaul Kabir and William T Levine, Chief of Party, USAID/Bangladesh AVC project were present at the inaugural session.
Speaking on the occasion, Shoaib Choudhury said more than 70 per cent population are directly and indirectly involved in agriculture.
“Bangladesh has immense potentials in agriculture sector and we are exporting quality rice and potato. But, to be competitive in the global market we have to ensure value addition in our agricultural products and focus on diversification,” he added.
William T Levine said the main objective of the project is to increase agriculture productivity and upgrade innovation. He said this is a five-year project and initially will work in 20 Districts of Barisal, Dhaka and Khulna Divisions.
Levine also informed AVC project is working to improve Bangladesh’s economic stability through enhanced food security by strengthening the agricultural value chains. Greg Sampson and Petra Walterova from International Trade Centre (ITC) were present as trainers at the workshop.
They said the training will address issues related to standards, linkages between supply and demand, access to new markets.
