3 CU students expelled

The Chittagong University (CU) authorities on Tuesday expelled three of its students for their alleged link with the banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
The ousted students were identified as Naimur Rahman Nayan, a fourth-year student of Physics Department, Faisal Mahmud and Shawkat Russell – both Masters’ degree students of the same department.
CU Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury said the decision was taken in exercise of the executive power of the university’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury.
Earlier, the detectives in separate drives arrested the trio from different areas of the city on Saturday.
Following their information, detective branch of police recovered huge arms, bomb-making substances and 12 sets of army uniforms from Aman Bazar area in the port city.
