Staff Reporter :Three cops of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) were closed on Wednesday for handcuffing a physically challenged person named Abul Hossain. The closed cops are Chittagong Metropolitan Court custody’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Shakhawat Hossain, transport section’s Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Khakon Chandra Majumder and constable Shankar De.CMP commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondal discharged them from duties in the morning.CMP additional commissioner (administration and traffic) AKM Shahidur Rahman said that they immediately investigated into the incident and closed the three policemen on charge of neglecting duty. Departmental actions would be taken shortly after further investigations.Although there were hardly any possibilities that physically challenged Abul Hossain, who was charged with drug peddling case, would escape from police custody, police handcuffed him which forced the physically challenged person to come to court on two pieces of woods.Handcuffing physically challenged person is sheer violation of Police Regulation of Bengal that sparked criticism among lawyers.
