Three members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Gazipur have been withdrawn to Gazipur Police lines on charge of manhandling a brother of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital (STAMCH).
The DB members are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mushfiqur Rahman, Constable Anwar and Fazlul Hoque.
Gazipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Harun-ur-Rashid withdrawn the DB police officials on Tuesday morning after visiting the hospital.
The SP assured the victim of ensuring justice to him.
STAMCH Residential Medical Officer Abdus Salam said, “Mushfiqur, Anwar and Fazlul around 10:30pm on Monday went to the emergency unit of the hospital in search of a suspected criminal named Rana. But Rana managed to escape the spot sensing the presence of the police. The DB team blamed the hospital’s senior brother Abul Fazal for it and they started walloping him there with sticks. At one stage, they tried to take Abul Fazal out of his workplace as well, but their efforts ended in vain in the face of intervention by the victim’s colleagues and the physicians.”
Later, injured Fazal, General Secretary of STAMCH Diploma Nurse Association, was admitted to the hospital, the doctor said.
Being angered by the police role, the hospital’s staff immediately brought out a procession and declared a work abstention programme creating immense suffering to the patients, he said.
Finally the agitating staff abandoned the programme as the SP visited the hospital in the morning and took the action against the alleged policemen.
