Two minor girls drowned in the same pond beside their home at Kalikapur village under Matlab South Upazila on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Habiba Akter,6, daughter of Zainal Abedin, a farmer, and Tonni, 7, daughter of Monir Hossain, a ship worker, both residents of Akram Sarderbari in Kalikapur vilage under Narayanpur union of Matlab South Upazila.
Locals and family members said, when Tonni’s mother went to wash cloths at the pond at 10 am, Tonni along with Habiba also followed her behind. But she did not see them. When she returned to her house, secretly they both went to pond ghat and while playing with water, they fell into the pond and drowned.
When Tonni’s mother did not see Tonni nor her friend/playmate Habiba near or in the house, she was calling Tonni again and again but she remained missing. Then she came near the pond and was thunderstruck to see her cloth floating in the pond. Shouting, she called others.
UNB from Netrakona adds: A minor boy was drowned in a small pond at Rajapur village of Kalmakanda upazila here on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Aiman, 2, son of Mojammel Haque of the area. The victim’s father said Aiman fell in a small pond near the house while he was playing on its bank.
