The Election Commission (EC) will hold the by-polls for Dhaka-10, Gaibandha-3 and Bagerhat-4 constituencies today (Saturday) amid
the countrywide panic over novel coronavirus, which has already taken one live in the country.
According to officials, the EC has arranged ‘adequate’ protection to avoid transmission of COVID- 19, which is comprised of hand sanitizer, tissue papers and awareness banners.
Urging voters to come to the polling centres, Regional Election Officer for Dhaka-10 by-polls GM Shahatab Uddin on Friday said, “We have adequate measures to protect voters from coronavirus infection.”
“Four or five volunteers will assist the voters at every polling booth,” he said.
The voting materials for Dhaka-10 by-polls have been transferred from the capital’s Teachers’ Training Institute (TTI) to the polling centres on Friday.
Some voters have raised the question over the responsibility of voters, who may get infected with the highly contagious virus while voting.
Voter to Dhaka-10 Md Saiful Islam said, specialist, doctor and government announced that to get protection from Coronavirus avoid the gathering or crowd of people. But during election how the gathering avoid would be possible?
He further said, who will bear the Coronavirus, nobody will know. Even though, in the vote centre proper detection system would not available.
On the other hand, Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) said, there is high possibility to spread Coronavirus if the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) to use in the election.
