Three persons received burn injuries after a local Awami League activist allegedly hurled hot water at them for not paying extortion money in Old Dhaka on Friday.
The injured were identified as Rob Pradhan and his son Abdus Salam. The name of other person, a passer-by, could not be known immediately.
They were admitted to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
Rob Pradhan’s cousin was constructing a six-story building at East Islambagh. But four days ago Maruf Hossain Khoka, an activist of Ward No. 29 Unit of AL asked Rob Pradhan to give Tk 10 lakh as extortion for constructing the building.
Rob Pradhan, who is also General Secretary of shop owners’ association in Islambagh, refused to give the extortion. On Friday, Khoka went to spot of the under constructed building and involved in quarrel
with Rob Pradhan. At one stage, Khoka hurled boiled water at them.
Rob Pradhan said that Koka also threatened to demolish the building if his demand is not met.
DMCH doctors said Rob Pradhan sustained nine per cent burn injuries, while Abdus Salam and the passer-by sustained two per cent and four per cent respectively.
Confirming the incident, Shamim-ur-Rashid Talukder, Officer-in-Charge of Chawk Bazar Police Station, said Khoka has been absconding after the incident.
No case was filed in this regard yet, the OC added.
