Three members of a family were burned and four others injured in a blast at Ashulia, on the outskirts of capita Dhaka on Sunday morning.
The injured have been identified as Alamgir, 40, a supervisor of Actor Garments, his wife Afroza Khatun, 30, operator of Ria Garments, and their son Alamin, 12, hailing from Sherpur upazila in Bogra district. They are undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
Alamgir and his wife Afroza used to live in the rented ground floor of a three-story building in the area.
The fire broke out when Afroza went to the kitchen for putting fire on the stove around 5:00am, said Abdul Awal, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station. Later, the fire engulfed the entire ground floor leaving the trio injured, he added. However, fire service sources said that there was an explosion as Afroza lit the stove on Sunday morning.
The walls of their flat cracked in the blast, which also damaged parts of the building. The other residents of the building have been evacuated for their safety, they said.
Afroza received 70 percent burn injury while their son Alamin received 60 percent, said Dr Rezaul Haque, Head of the Intensive Care Unit of Enam Medical College Hospital.
