Graft case: 3 BTCL officials granted bail

A court here on Wednesday granted bail to three incumbent and former officials of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) in a case filed for embezzling Tk 5,753,383,975.
Judge of the Special Court-10 Jafrul Hasan passed the order when the three accused surrendered before the court seeking bail in the case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
The accused are assistant engineer of BTCL’s Radio and Transmission Department Mohammad Badiul Alam, its former divisional engineer Habibu Rahman Pramanik and former assistant divisional engineer Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal.
According to the prosecution, the accused erased the international call record of 211.83 crore minutes in collusion with the ‘LM Ericson Bangladesh Limited’ officials from December 2011 to November 2012 which caused a loss of Tk 5,753,383,975 to the BTCL.
ACC deputy director SM Mahidur Rahman filed a case against them with Ramna Police Station on August 29 last year.
