3 BNP, Jamaat leaders arrested in Sylhet

Police in separate raids over the last couple of days arrested two leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and one of BNP in Sylhet. The arrestees are Sohel Ahmed, Sylhet city unit secretary of Jamaat; Rafiqul Islam Lincon, a city unit rukon of the same party; and Shahjamal Nurul Huda, vice president of Sylhet district BNP. Police arrested Sohel at his residence in Sabujbag area of Shibganj early Sunday morning, said Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahporan Police Station.Sohel is accused in a case filed for producing anti-state posters after the execution of war criminal Jamaat leader Motiur Rahman Nizami, said the OC.Meanwhile, Rafiqul is accused in several sabotage cases, said Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Moglabazar Police Station.
The BNP leader, Shahjamal, was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Ambarkhana area on Saturday evening and later handed over to Jalalabad Police Station.
Shah Md Harunur Rashid, the officer-in-charge of the police station, said he is accused in a police assault case.
The case was filed in September this year.A Sylhet court sent all the arrestees to jail after they were produced before it.
