bdnews24.com :Police have detained three youths during a demonstration by the ‘deprived’ candidates of the 34th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations.Nur Islam Nur, Shyamol and Moinul were detained from Shahbagh in Dhaka around 11:15am on Saturday, said Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakr Siddiq of Shahbagh Police Station. The candidates started the demonstration in front of the National Museum around 10:30am.They were demanding that they be recruited to the 672 reserved posts presently lying vacant. They brought out a procession and took position at the Shahbagh intersection.”Since there are three hospitals around Shahbagh, we requested them to go in front of the museum,” Assistant Commissioner (Ramna Zone) Shibly Noman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told bdnews24.com.”But when they brought out a procession and tried to take position at the Shahbagh intersection, we stopped them and detained three.”However, a demonstrator named Aminul Islam said, “We had been holding the programme peacefully since the morning. But the police intervened, assaulted us and detained our three members.”Justifying their demand, he said, “The PSC (Public Service Commission) did not maintain transparency in publishing the 34th BCS results. There were no separate merit lists for the general candidates and those with the quota privilege. Even the quota system was not properly followed.””So we are demanding that the 672 posts be filled with those who passed the 34th BCS examinations,” Islam argued.
